Text
A Course in Linear Algebra by David B. Damiano and John B. Little. This book is available at the Holy Cross bookstore. We will cover most of the material from the first four chapters.
Homework Assignments
There will be weekly homework assignments. They are due at the beginning of class on the due date (usually on Tuesday). The problem sets and their due dates will be posted on the course web page. You will find a link to this web site on my home page. NO late assignments will be accepted without a serious documented reason. Should this happen, you need to contact me before the homework is due.
Please follow these guidelines when writing up your homework papers.
On the first page write your name, the assignment details, and your section number.
Write neatly. It is your responsibility to make sure the grader can read your work.
Remove any frayed edges and staple or clip multi-page assignments together.
Show your work. Correct answers without any explanation will not receive full credit.
Exams
There will be three midterm exams and a final exam.
Exam 1: Thursday, February 14, in class.
Exam 2: Tuesday, March 25, in class.
Exam 3: Tuesday, April 22, in class.
Final Exam (cumulative): Tuesday, May 6, 8:30-11:30 AM.
Grading Policy
Three midterm exams - 20%, 20%, 10% (in decreasing order of scores)
Final exam - 30%
Homework and discussion write-ups - 20%
Attendance
Attendance is important to me and could make a difference in the grade in border line cases.
Academic Honesty
You are expected to comply with the Departmental Statement on Academic Integrity (found at http://mathcs.holycross.edu/AcademicIntegrity.htm) as well as the Academic Honesty Policy of the College (found on page 13 of the Holy Cross Catalog). You can work together on homework assignments. However, the work you turn in must represent your own thoughts and be in your own words. Please do not allow others to copy your homework. There is no collaboration allowed on tests and the final exam.
