Advisory Information on Introductory Courses and AP Credit
Computer Science Courses
- CSCI 110 (Survey of Computer Science) is a breadth-first
general introduction to computer science. It does not count toward
the requirements for the Major or Minor in Computer Science.
- CSCI 131 (Techniques of Programming) is an intensive introduction
to programming in an object-oriented language. It is the first required
course for the Major or Minor in Computer Science.
- Students who have received a score of 4 on the
AP Computer Science AB exam or a score of 4 or 5 on the AP Computer Science A
exam will earn one unit of credit (for CSCI 131, Techniques of Programming),
and are advised to take CSCI 132 (Data Structures). Students will forfeit
their AP credit if they opt to take CSCI 131 or CSCI 110.
Students who have received a score of 5 on the AP Computer Science AB exam
will earn one unit of credit and are advised to take
CSCI 226 (Computer Systems and Organization). Students will forfeit their AP credit
if they opt to take CSCI 131 or CSCI 110.
